Ergonomics

Make Good Ergonomics A Central Part Of Your Office Design

What Is Ergonomics

Ergonomics is the study of people and their working conditions, especially done in order to improve safety and effectiveness

Make your staff feel valued with the knowledge that you have their wellbeing at the forefront of everything you do.

A simple definition of ergonomics is "making the workplace fit the person" not "making the person fit the workplace".

Ignoring ergonomics increases the risk of the development of skeletal and muscular issues which can lead to wrist, neck and back pain over a period of time.

The result can be low motivation and absence from work.

Creating the right working environment for your office based staff is not difficult or expensive and we have a range of solutions to help you set up the perfect ergonomic workstation for the whole team.

We can help you to get it right. Talk to a member of our experienced Sales Team for more advice.

The Problem

Sitting for long periods of time without proper support can cause poor circulation and back pain.

The solution

Support your back.

Sit upright with your shoulders relaxed, maintaining contact between your back and the chair.

Knees should be level or just lower than your hips, with your feet firmly on the floor.

A seat cushion, foot rest or back support helps you achieve the correct posture.

The Problem

Typing on a keyboard or mousing can cause pain and discomfort to your hands, wrists, arms and shoulders.

Keep wrists neutral.

Keep forearms parallel with the top of your desk and wrists in a neutral position.

Your shoulders and arms should be relaxed with your elbows close to your body.

A wrist rest or vertical mouse can help you achieve the correct position when typing or mousing.

The Problem

Leaning forward and tilting your head up or down to see your screen or documents can place strain on your neck and back.

The solution

View in comfort.

Position your screen and documents at arm’s distance to avoid straining your eyes and neck leaning forwards.

Ensure your eyes are in line with the top of your screen/s and documents.

The Problem

Sitting at your desk for long periods of time can increase health risks such as obesity, high blood pressure and heart disease.

The solution

Sit, stand and move.

Switching regularly between sitting and standing can help you be more active whilst working.

Whether sitting or standing, ensure you maintain the correct ergonomic posture and take regular breaks.

The Problem

Cluttered workstations can hinder focus, reduce productivity, and increase the risk of injury through stretching & twisting.

In addition, messy, unorganised desks contribute to stress by creating a chaotic and inefficient work environment.

The solution

Keep workspaces clear.

Ensure everything is easy to access, cables are hidden & tidy and the workspace is reserved for items you are actively using.

Keep stretching and twisting to a minimum by making everything accessible, reducing the risk of back, neck and shoulder strain.

DSE Check For Workstations

Do You Carry Out DSE Checks?

By law, employers must protect staff from the health risks of working with display screen equipment (DSE), such as PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones.

The Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations apply to workers who use DSE daily, for continuous periods of an hour or more. The law applies to employees working in the office and at home.

Staff may experience fatigue, eye strain, upper limb problems and backache from overuse or improper use of DSE.

These problems can also be caused by poorly designed workstations or work environments.
